I feel like I am way behind on this entire tapioca in drinks thing. So total confession… when my friend brought me to a store and she said tapioca in the coffee, I was thinking like rice pudding…or like horchata…not little jelly-like balls. They are these little translucent balls made from the starch of cassava root and the color of them depends on the ingredients. They are also known as boba (“bubble”), pearls, or poppers! You know…the fruit-flavored “poppers” in froyo places? All the same thing. To be honest, I was not a huge fan. I think it may have been different if I had it in a different way, flavoring, or not through a straw. There were a couple of times that I attempted to take a sip of coffee and was taken by surprise with a little ball shooting down my throat.
The kids actually love putting these on their froyo. And they always put one scoop of every single flavor on their froyo too. There are times that I have to slow them down from adding too much, but honestly, who doesn’t have to slow down the toppings consumption at a froyo place?!?!
After shopping around at some stores and thrift shops, she and her husband took me for ramen. It is so simple, but the flavor in those dishes. My friends completely laughed at me and my struggle bus use of chopsticks. I’d like to put it out there that eating a bowl of soup with chopsticks should be an Olympic sport or something because I simply do not have the coordination to pull it off. But on the real, this soup…I fought my horrible coordination to get every last bite. Ramen at home will never be the same now.
Until next week!
